On 7 December, the European Commission launched MYGEOSS. MYGEOSS is a two-year project (2015-16) by the European Commission to develop GEOSS-based (Global Earth Observation System of Systems) smart Internet applications informing European citizens on the changes affecting their local environment.
A few applications will be developed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, but the majority will be developed through three open calls for innovative ideas. The European Commission aims to involve European SMEs in the development of different aspects of MYGEOSS, The European Commission further aims to use full and open access data contained in the GEOSS Data-CORE. Moreover, the European Commission wishes to involve citizen science projects, citizen observatories and the public at large via mobile applications based on EO products and services. The implementation of the Global Earth Observation System of System (GEOSS) by the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) has created a shift regarding the access to Earth observation data (EO) in promoting full and open access to both remote sensing and in-situ observation data all around the world. This trend represents a huge opportunity for business development in the context of a growing digital economy.
